Erectile dysfunction is a type of penile disorder in which the ability to maintain or get an erection long enough to have sexual intercourse is disturbed. Your feelings play an important part in maintaining an erection. Feeling relaxed, confident, and aroused is essentially required. But, sometimes it’s normal to have erection issues. Sometimes, Erection problems can occur if you feel nervous, anxious, frustrated, or tired.

Some Common Erectile Problems and their Solutions:

Poor Blood Flow:

Solution: Exercise regularly, maintain a healthy weight and manage stress to improve blood flow.

Medication: Sildenafil (Viagra) phosphodiesterase inhibitors affect penis blood vessels to increase blood supply during intercourse.

Hormonal Problems:

Solution: Consult with a doctor for a diagnosis of whether it’s a thyroid problem or testosterone deficiency.

Medication: Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) for low testosterone levels diagnosed. If the thyroid has problems (hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism) treat them accordingly.

Psychological Problems:

Solution: Do stress-management exercises like meditation, yoga, or deep breathing.

Therapy: Consult with a therapist to address psychological problems (anxiety, depression, GAD)

Drug-Induced ED

Solution: Consult with your physician for dose adjustment or alternate medications.

Lifestyle

Smoking, Sedentary Lifestyle, Alcohol

Solution: Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption to improve health and also better sexual health.

Relationship Status

Solution: Communicate with your partner, and take couples therapy to address problems if needed.

Peyronie’s Disease

Solution: Consult to doctor to make a diagnosis and treat Peyronie’s disease.

Medication: Tab verapamil or interferon was prescribed to treat Peyronie’s disease.

Chronic Problems (diabetes, stroke, bladder problems, hypertension )

Solution: Consult with a physician for diagnosis and treatment accordingly.

Medication: Medications like alpha-blockers or 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors to treat prostate problems.Antihypertensive and anti-diabetic for Blood pressure and diabetes accordingly. Advice for proper control pr blood pressure and sugar levels

Hx of trauma, Hx of pelvic surgery, Hx of spinal injury

Solution: Consultation is needed with a medical professional to address the problems and treat them accordingly.

When to need Medical Attention?

1. Continuous ED: If ED is frequent and worsens with time.

2. Painful Erections: If erections are painful or discomfort.

3. Urinary problems: If difficulty in urinating or other urinary problems.

4. Testicular Pain: If testicular pain or swelling.
